why i stopped taking commissions
i don't think i ever wanted to sell my art. the need for money pushed me to do so in dire situations, but i rarely had the motivation to finish them. I ended up either taking 6 months to finish single commissions or giving up and refunding clients. i was miserable, and the course of my artistic learning was being shaped by this expectation in the back of my head that the end goal is to sell art to others.
i guess i could say i'm sorry to anyone i disappointed in the end by issuing refunds, but that would be kind of dishonest of me. this decision is incredibly important for my mental health and artistic development, more important than making people happy with a monetary transaction ever could be. i just hope refunding the money paid and allowing people to keep the sketches i provided them is repayment enough for the long waits.
